3 gamblers sent to jail, 4 others fined

A mobile court sentenced three gamblers to one month's imprisonment at Sarpukur village in Aditmari upazila of Lalmonirhat district early yesterday, reports our correspondent.

The convicts are Shahidul Islam, 25, son of Taher Ali, Golzar Ali, 50, son of late Azizur Rahman and Jaynal Abedin, 45, son of late Mafur Uddin of Patantari village in the upazila.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Jahurul Islam led the court, said police.

In Bogra, a mobile court on Tuesday fined four gamblers arrested from Dhunat upazila office area in the district, reports our correspondent.

They are Abdul Kafi, 48, son of Keramat Ali, Anil Kumar, 25, son of Provat Kumar, Safiqul Islam, 27, son of Abdul Hamid, and Abdul Alim, 34, son of Yakub Ali of Bilchapri village under the upazila.

Acting on a tip-off, police raided Bichapri village on Monday and arrested the four while they were gambling.

They were produced before the mobile court of Executive Magistrate Hafizur Rahman, also the upazila nirbahi officer, yesterday. After hearing, the court pronounced the verdict.

Contacted, Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Dhunat Police Station, said the court fined them Tk 1500. They were released after paying the fine.
