3 family members killed as truck ploughs into their house

At least three members of a family were killed as a truck ploughed through their house in Shahjadpur upazila of Sirajganj early today.

Deceased Abu Bakkar Sheikh, 42, his wife Arbi Khatun, 35, and their son Sabbir Ahmed, 10, were asleep when the incident occurred in Dariapur area of the upazila, reports our Pabna correspondent.

A molass-laden truck from Jessore ploughed into the roadside house around 5:30am when its driver lost control over the steering, killing the trio on the spot, Md Monirul Islam, said officer-in-charge of Shahzadpur Police Station.

On information, the bodies were recovered and sent to the Sirajganj Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Their neighbours, Mojnu Miah, 40, and his son Sourav, 9, were both injured in the accident. They are undergoing treatment in Shahzadpur upazila health complex.

Police seized the truck but its driver and helper managed to flee from the spot, the OC said.
