3 of a family get life term for killing 9-yr old child in Patuakhali

A Patuakhali court today awarded life term imprisonment to a youth and his parents on charge of killing a nine-year-old boy eight years ago.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Mostafa Pavel Rayhan delivered the judgment after examining records and witnesses while the accused remained absconding.

The convicted -- Md Solaiman Fakir, 30, his father Md Shahjahan Fakir, 50, and mother Anwara Begum, 45, of Dhulashar village under Kalapara upazila of the district -- were fined Tk 10,000 each, in default to serve six more months in prison, a court source said.

The prosecution said there was a quarrel over a pond between Mobashwer Mridha and his neighbour Solaiman Fakir on April 24, 2009.

Later, Solaiman kidnapped Shakil, nine-year-old son of Mobashwer, when the boy was returning home with his younger sister after watching TV in a neighbour’s house.

Mobashwer and his wife Jesmin went to Solaiman’s house to look for Shakil, but they found the house locked.

Police recovered Shakil’s body from Kawar Char area on the eastern side of Kuakata beach on April 25.

Jesmin Begum, mother of Shakil, filed a murder case with Kalapara Police Station in this regard, accusing Solaiman and his parents.
