3 to die for killing boatman

A court here yesterday sentenced three youths, aged about 25 to 30 years, to death for killing a boatman in 2015.

The deceased was Abdur Razzak of Bahadurpur village in Harirampur upazila of the district.

The convicts are Monirul Islam of Pirer Char village in Faridpur's Bhanga upazila, Rasel Mollah and Kartik Hawlader of Najirganj village in Pabna's Sujanagar upazila.

District and Sessions Judge Md Mizanur Rahman Khan also fined them Tk 20,000 each.

According to the prosecution, five youths hired Razzak's boat for Tk1, 600 from Jhitka Hat of Harirampur upazila of Manikganj to go to Daulatdia Ghat in Rajbari on October 5 in 2015.

The convicts strangled Razzak and took away his boat and dumped the body in the Padma river.

On October 9, Harirampur police arrested the convicted youths.
