Locals killed what they claimed were cobras, 27 of them, after the snakes were found holing up in the walls of a residential house in Rajshahi city.

The snakes were found in a house owned by Mazdar Ali, an employee in a private telecom company, our local staff correspondent reports.

He spotted the first snake slithering on his floor when he returned home around 10:00pm last night. Under the cupboard, he found two more.

“I killed them right away with a stick. I was panic-stricken. My wife and son were sleeping in the room,” he told The Daily Star. “Elders identified the snakes as cobras.”

Alarmed by the find, he called in a manhunt for the source in the wee hours of today. They ended up finding more snakes in the mice holes on the walls.

One by one, all the snakes were brought out using hot water and killed. In total, 27 snakes were killed. They were found by The Daily Star in a skinned state.

Mazdar’s brother Saidar Ali, 42, said their house was old and they were living in it since birth. “These are mice holes. Maybe, the snakes holed in there to catch rodents.”

He feared, there could be some other snakes around.

SM Sajjad Hossain, an official of Rajshahi forest division, told The Daily Star they did not receive any complaint in this regard.
