21 cattle burnt alive

A fire gutted at least five houses at Monglu Shahpara village in Khansama upazila on Monday night.

During the incident nine cows and 12 goats were also burnt alive.

Khamarpara Union Parishad Chairman Sajedul Haque said the fire originated from a mosquito coil kept at the cowshed of one Basir Uddin around 9:00pm and soon engulfed the adjacent four houses.

On information, fire fighters from Dinajpur's Birganj Fire Station and Nilphamari went to the spot and doused the blaze around 11:00am.

Khansama Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mahbub Ul Islam visited the spot and gave Tk 5,000 cash and 30kg of rice to each affected families.
