A long tailback of about 20 kilometres ensued on Dhaka-Tangail highway this morning due to separate incidents of break downs and road crash coupled with bad condition of the road.

A cement-laden truck broke down near Bangabandhu Bridge connecting-road around 1:00am today causing the gridlock, Tangail Traffic Inspector Sajedul Islam told our local correspondent.

Later, according to him, another truck turned turtle near Pungli Bridge in Tangail’s Kalihati upazila around 9:00am this morning causing further sufferings for commuters.

Commuters and transport workers said they faced 10 hours of tailback on the road.

“We hope, the traffic situation will improve soon, as the truck was removed from the road around 10:00am,” Elegna Highway Police Station in-charge Tarikul Islam told The Daily Star.

Though the traffic resumed in a slow pace around 10:00am, the highway riddled in potholes and puddles of accumulated rain water, was making it difficult for vehicles to move smoothly along the way.
