25 including 7 teachers hurt in Magura clash

At least 25 people were injured as the students and teachers of Magura Government Polytechnic Institute clashed with police in the district town this morning.

The injured includes seven teachers and five policemen, our Magura correspondent reports quoting police.

The clash ensued when police tried to disperse the agitating teachers and students who were protesting a physical assault on a teacher blocking the Magura-Jhenidah highway in front of the institute around 10:00am.

Earlier, an outsider named Mostak Ahmed reportedly assaulted the teacher Mokhlesur Rahman physically centering a cricket match at the institute’s playground yesterday.

Police fired several rounds of teargas shells and rubber bullets at the protesters that left seven teachers and 13 students injured, said Azmul Huda, officer-in-charge of Magura Sadar Police Station.

“Five policemen were also injured in the clash,” he said adding that all the injured were sent to Magura Sadar Hospital.
