2 ‘robbers’ killed in Brahmanbaria ‘gunfight’

Two suspected robbers were killed in a “gunfight” with police in Sarail upazila of Brahmanbaria early today, hours after their arrest.

Two deceased -- Bashar Mia, 30, son of Aktar Hossain of Swajangram village of Lakhai upazila of Habiganj district, and Abdul Wahab alias Enta Dakat, 28, son of Abdul Awal of Sotiara village of Brahmanbaria Sadar upazila -- were arrested yesterday in Sarail upazila, our local correspondent reports quoting police.

The gunfight took place when their cohorts attack police in order to snatch the robbers from their custody in Shahbazpur-Deora regional road of Sarail upazila, said Mofiz Uddin Bhuiyan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sarail Police Station.

Acting on a tip-off, police took the duo and raided the area around 2:45am to recover weapons, the OC said.

The miscreants fired five to seven rounds of bullets at police triggering the gunfight and leaving the two robbers dead on the spot, said the OC.

Five members of law enforcers including Senior ASP of Sarail-Ashuganj circle, Moniruzzaman Fakir and OC of Sarail Police Station,  Mofiz Uddin Bhuiyan were also injured during the “gunfight”.

ASP Moniruzzaman Fakir said, Abdul Wahab alias ‘Enta Dakat’ is accused in six cases including murder and robbery. Five cases have been filed against Bashar with Lakhai and Sarail Police Station.

The bodies of two deceased were sent to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
