2 more killed as anti-drug drive continues

At least two more were killed early today as the countrywide anti-drug crusade continues to draw more blood, mounting a heap of 124 bodies in the last 17 days.

In today’s fresh count, obtained from post-midnight incidents, the two were said to have been killed in “infighting of the drug gangs”, according to Bangla daily Prothom Alo.

Jessore

One "infighting" occurred at Bagharpara upazila of Jessore around 3:00am. The identity of the deceases "drug dealer" could not be known, Prothom Alo reports quoting police.

Madaripur

In Madaripur, alleged drug dealer Bachchu Khalifa, 45, was killed amid a tripartite gunfight at Shibchar area around 4:00am.

According to police, while going for a drug recovery raid in the area, they heard gunshots from a infighting between two groups of drug dealers. When police reached there the criminals started firing at them forcing them to retaliate.

Bachchu, however, was killed in the infighting of the two groups, Prothom Alo reports quoting Mohammad Sarwer, superintendent of police in Madaripur.

The ongoing drive already became the bloodiest anti-crime drive with death tolls surpassing that of the 2002 Operation Clean Heart (57 deaths) or even the anti-militant drive after the 2016 Gulshan attack (80 deaths).
