2 killed in rice mill boiler blast

A mechanic of an automatic rice mill and his helper were killed as a boiler of the mill exploded at Bagadoba village in Melandah upazila of the district yesterday.

The deceased were Abdul Karim, 45, a resident of Sherpur district, and Mintu, 35, son of Nawsher Ali of Lakkhipur village under Nayanagar union in Melandah upazila.

Karim and Mintu worked at Keya Auto Rice Mill belonging to Abul Kalam Azad of Bagadoba village.

Karim and Mintu started operating the rice mill around 10:00am. Minutes later, the boiler exploded, leaving them dead on the spot,” said Azizur Rahman, OC of Melandah Police Station.

“The bodies were sent to Jamalpur General Hospital morgue for autopsy. The mill owner went into hiding,” he added.
