2 killed over fishing in Mymensingh clash

At least two people were killed and 25 injured in a clash that took place in Phulbari upazila of Mymensingh today over fishing in a water body.

The victims were identified as Abdul Halim Fakir, 28, and Aamsar Ali, 40, both from the upazila, our Mymensingh correspondent reports quoting police.

Two groups of local people locked into altercations over fishing in a water body in the area around 8:00am, Rifat Khan Razib, officer-in-charge of Phulbaria Police Station, said quoting locals and witnesses.

At one point, they swooped on each other with sharp weapons, leaving at least 27 people injured, the OC said. They were taken to Phulbaria Upazila Health Complex where a doctor declared Abdul Halim and Aamsar Ali dead.

At least 17 people were shifted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital as their conditions deteriorated.

On information police went to the spot and detained three people identified as Rustom Ali, 55, Mozaffar Ali Moza, 35, and Abdul Matin, 30, for their alleged involvement in the killing, the OC added.
