2 killed in Moulvibazar clash over land

At least two persons were killed and 25 others injured today in a clash over land dispute between two groups of villagers in Lamua area of Moulvibazar Sadar Upazila.

The deceased were identified as Md Abdul Malik, 54, a resident of Lamua village and Shafiqur Rahman, 25, a resident of Purbo Kholilpur village in the upazila, Mohammad Shahajalal, superintendent of police (SP) in Moulvibazar, told our correspondent.

The villagers locked in the clash with lethal weapons around 11:00am over a long standing feud between Lekash Mia and Sadbar Mia of the upazila over establishing supremacy in the area and occupying some government land, police sources said.  

Some of the injured were taken to Moulvibazar 250-bed hospital while others were admitted to Sylhet Osmani Medical College and Hospital.

Eight people were held in this connection, police said.
