2 killed as bus hits rickshaw in Dhaka

Two people were killed and one injured as a passenger bus hit a rickshaw near Motijheel intersection of Dhaka this morning.

The deceased – rickshaw-puller Khokon, 40, and its passenger Nurjahan, 45, were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where they were declared dead, DMCH sources said.

The accident occurred when a BTCL bus dashed the rickshaw carrying two passengers including Nurjahan in front of the Rajuk Bhaban around 8:00am, Sub-Inspector of Motijheel Police Station Nishat Jahan told The Daily Star.

The bus driver, Hanif, 30, has been detained and the bus has been seized, the police official said.

Injured, Fatema, 50, is being treated at the DMCH.

Nurjahan and Fatema both worked as sweepers in a multi-storied building at Motijheel.
