2 Jhenidah Shibir men shot dead

They were picked up by law enforcers last month, families alleged

Abu Jar Gifari (L) and Shamim Mahmud

The bullet-hit bodies of two Islami Chhatra Shibir men of Jhenidah were found in Jessore Sadar upazila this morning.

Deceased Abu Jar Gifari, 21, was Shibir president of Jhenidah’s Kaliganj municipality unit; while Shamim Mahmud was an activist of the organisation.

The victims were picked up by the members of Detective Branch of police last month, their families alleged. However, the DB police denied the allegation, reports our correspondent.

Gifari was honours third year student at Bangla department of Jessore MM College and Shamim was honours second year student of KC College in Jhenidah.

Ilias Hossain, officer-in-charge of Jessore Kotwali Police Station, confirmed the body recovery.

Victims’ families at separate press conferences claimed that plainclothes police introducing themselves as detectives picked up Gifari and Shamim on March 18 and 25 respectively and they remained missing since then.

Gifari’s father alleged that DB men abducted his son when he was returning home after performing Jummah prayer from a local mosque in their locality on March 18.

On March 25, Shamim was detained by DB men from Mahtab Uddin Degree College premises.
