2 held over brutal murder of Narsingdi teenage girl

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested two accused including the prime accused in Sylhet in connection with a case filed for burning a teenage girl, Aziza Akhter, to death.

Beauty Begum, 26, and Sanowara Begum, 50, of Shibpur upazila of Narsingdi, were arrested from Mirergaon village of Bishwanath upazila in Sylhet around 3:00am, reports our local correspondent.

Beauty and Sanowara were hiding in a village in Sylhet, Md Moniruzzaman, senior assistant director (media) of Rab-9 said.

“They are being transferred to the respective police station where a case was filed in connection with killing Aziza, the ASP said.

Aziza, 14, succumbed to serious burns on Friday, hours after she was set afire on flimsy grounds that she stole a mobile phone.

She was tied to a tree and set alight pouring petrol, police and family members said.

Victim’s father Abdus Sattar filed a case accusing seven people including Beauty.
