2 held with 2 leopard cubs in N'ganj

Law enforcers detained two persons and recovered two leopard cubs from their possessions in Naraynganj Sadar upazila today.

The detainees were identified as Showkat Islam Mithu, 40, and his associate Ariful Islam, 28, Rab said.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Rab-11 led by Major Ashik Billah conducted a drive at Showkat's house in Fatullah area and detained the duo for possessing the cubs illegally, the Rab official said.

The two cubs were brought from Africa around five or six days ago, Major Ashik Billah said.

The poachers were planning to smuggle the cubs out to a nearby country, he said quoting the detainees.
