2 Harrier SUVs seized over tax dodging

Customs intelligence today seized two luxurious taxi SUVs from Baridhara in Dhaka allegedly brought into the country dodging over Tk 50 lakh in taxes.

The two SUVs of Toyota Harrier 2014 model were brought into the country to be used as taxi cabs, Moinul Khan, director general of customs intelligence, said.

One of the cars was being run privately. It was surrendered before the customs today after the owner was given a notice. The other car was seized from a showroom.

The cars worth Tk one crore each were subjected to 217% import tax.

However, since these were shown imported for use as taxi cabs, all import taxes more than 20% have been waived, due to which around Tk 50 lakh has been dodged by the owner, Moinul Khan added.
