2 cops closed for beating up contractor

Two constables have been closed to the district police lines for beating up a contractor in Borolekha upazila of the district.

Police Superintendent Mohammad Shah Jalal said the action was taken against the constables -- Monir Ahmed and Latif Miah -- on Sunday.

Locals said police seized the bike of one Rahim Uddin at Uttar Choumohani of the upazila while checking documents of motorcycles. However, it was returned on submission of papers.

Rahim dropped constable Motin at the Borolekha Police Station on his motorbike at the request of the constable. An altercation ensued between the two as the constable demanded Tk 500 from Rahim.

Hearing the news, Rahim's relative Jalaluddin, a local contractor, rushed in and protested the constable's demand.

Seeing the incident, two other constables -- Monir Ahmed and Latif Miah -- beat up Jalal, leaving him critically injured.
