A construction worker was killed and nine were injured as an under-construction bridge connecting two buildings collapsed at Dhamrai, on the outskirts of Dhaka, this morning.

The deceased was identified as Shamsur Rahman Sujon, 34, our Savar correspondent reports quoting police.

The connecting bridge collapsed around 9:00am when the victims were working on it, Syed Shariful Islam, Dhamrai Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), told our correspondent.

Local fire fighters and police jointly conducted the operation to rescue the injured people, who were admitted to a local hospital later.

The bridge was being constructed to connect two three-storey buildings of Rising Group, a garment factory.

Local administration will give Tk 20,000 to the family of the Sujon while Tk 5,000 to the injured victims, the UNO said.

The authorities of the Rising Group announced Tk 2 lakh for the deceased’s family and they will carry the cost of treatment of the injured victims.
