2 children drown in Noakhali trawler capsize

At least two children died and five people were injured in a trawler capsize in Chhoto Feni river at Companyganj of Noakhali.

The deceased were identified as Ashik, 12, son of Ali Ahmad of Char Balua village of Char Elahi union, and Hridoy, 5, son of Ibrahim of the same village, reports our local correspondent.

A portion of the trawler sank in the river when its passengers started to get down hurriedly at Koraitola Ghat around 12:30pm, said Md Abdul Matin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Companyganj Police Station.

“Two children were drawn and five others sustained injuries in the incident,” the police official said.

The injured were admitted to Companyganj Upazila Health Complex, he added.

The trawler reached at the ghat boarding more than 200 passengers from Char Torab Ali Ghat of Shubarnapur upazila, said Nur Nabi, the trawler owner.
