2 bird poachers punished

A mobile court yesterday destroyed 3,000 square feet of nets used for trapping birds in Hakaluki Haor area of Kulaura upazila under the district. 

The court led by Kulaura Upazila Nirbahi officer Md Gulam Rabbi also punished two poachers for the illegal netting, said Sultan Mahmud, fisheries officer of Kulaura upazila.

“Ira Mia, son of Ansar Mia in Ghilacherra village under Fenchuganj upazila in Sylhet, was jailed for seven days and Hanif Mia, 35, son of Ashid Mia in Berkuri village in Kulaura upazila, was fined Tk 1,000. Such drives will continue to punish those who are involved in illegal netting of birds in Hakaluki Haor area,” he added.
