2 BCL men killed in Moulvibazar 'infighting'

Two activists of Bangladesh Chattra League were reportedly killed in a factional clash in Moulvibazar town this evening.

The deceased Shahbab Rahman, 23, and Mahi Ahmed 18, were activists of Bangladesh Chattra League, said Mohammad Shahjalal, superintendent of police in Moulvibazar.

Shahbab was a student of Moulvibazar Government College and Mahi, an SSC candidate of the Government School, our local correspondent reports quoting police.

The clash ensued following an altercation between the two factions of BCL – one loyal to Jubo League General Secretary Rezaul Karim Sumon and another following Jubo League leader Sheikh Rumel -- in front of Moulvibazar Government High School around 6:30pm, Assaduzzaman Rony, the general secretary of the district unit BCL.

Shahbab and Mahi sustained severe stab injuries during the clash, said Sohel Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Moulvibazar Sadar Police Station.

Critically injured, the two were rushed to Sadar Hospital where they were pronounced dead, he said.

The bodies of the deceased were sent to the district hospital for autopsy, he added.
