2 Bangladeshi youths to join WEF annual meeting 2017

Bangladeshi youth leaders Saif Kamal and Sohara Mehroze Shachi have been selected to participate in the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in 2017.

They will become the first Bangladeshi youths to participate in the summit titled ‘Responsive and Responsible Leadership’ to be held at Davos-Klosters, Switzerland from January 17-20 next year, according to a post published on Friday in the Facebook page of Dhaka Hub, Global Shapers.

Kamal and Shachi are the former curator and current vice-curator respectively of the Dhaka Hub of Global Shapers, an initiative of the World Economic Forum.

The Global Shapers Community is a network of dynamic, entrepreneurial and socially-engaged young leaders aged between 20 and 30 from across the world.

They are organised into city-based Hubs and have committed to working together to make a positive and tangible impact through local projects.

Since 2011, when the community was first founded, more than 400 Hubs were created and 4,600 Global Shapers have joined the Community.

So far, more than half of all Hubs have established local initiatives aimed at tackling some of the most pressing problems in their communities.

Kamal and Shachi are among the 24 Shapers working at the Dhaka Hub of the Global Shapers Community. They will be attending the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2017 along with 48 other Global Shapers from different Hubs across the world.

This is the first time any city in the region has two representatives participating in the summit, Kamal told The Daily Star.

The participants will get together with the most influential people in the world at the summit to discuss on how to help shape a better world.

They will engage in a variety of activities and interact with important leaders across different stakeholder communities, sharing the voice of the youth to shape the agenda across national, regional and global issues.

The World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos-Klosters engages the world’s top leaders in collaborative activities to shape the global, regional and industry agendas at the beginning of each year.

For over four decades, the World Economic Forum’s mission – improving the state of the world – has driven the design and development of the Annual Meeting programme.
