2 Bangladesh cops to join Interpol as experts: IGP

Two officials of Bangladesh police are going to be hired by the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) to train up law enforcement agencies of different countries in curbing the menace of the transnational terrorism and militancy.

Inspector General of Bangladesh Police AKM Shahidul Hoque made the disclosure while addressing a press conference at its headquarters on the occasion of the Police Week.

"Our process in curbing the menace of militancy was praised in a recent meeting of Interpol. Its secretary wanted two officials from us who will provide training to law enforcement agencies of different countries. We have already approved two names for this purpose," he said.

Earlier, experts of Bangladesh police went to the Interpol for part-time training, but this is for the first time, the two experts are going to be appointed by the Interpol permanently as experts in curbing militancy, he added.

He said the law enforcement agencies conducted drives in a total of 35 militant dens across the country in 2017 where 57 members of the suicide squads were killed and over a hundred militants arrested.

Claiming that the present law and order situation is better than the previous time, the IGP said the emergence of the militancy and its network in the country has been smashed with the efforts of the law enforcers.
