2 abducted students rescued from Sirajganj, Sylhet

Four kidnappers arrested after gunfight with cops in Sirajganj, another held in Sunamganj

Police rescued a college student from armed abductors in Kamarkhand upazila of Sirajganj district on Saturday night while locals rescued a kidnapped schoolboy from Amborkhana in Sylhet city on Friday evening.

Law enforcers also arrested five alleged criminals on charge of the two abductions.

Police rescued Azadul Alam, a student of Pabna Edward College, and detained four alleged kidnappers after a gunfight with the criminals at Kutirchar in Kamarkhand upazila on Saturday night, reports our Pabna correspondent.

Criminals abducted Azadul Alam, 22, son of Ruhul Amin of Shampur village in Ishwardi upazila of Pabna, from Ishwardi on Saturday night and took him to Kutirchar area of Kamarkhand upazila in Sirajganj, said Md Waheduzzaman, officer in charge (OC) of Sirajganj Detective Branch of police.

Azadul is a student of Pabna Edward College.

"Acting on a tip, a team of Sirajganj DB police raided near a bridge at Kutirchar when the kidnappers opened fire, prompting a gunfight with the cops. Police rescued Azadul and arrested four kidnappers including Md Rezaul Islam, 32, who was injured during the fight,” the OC said.

The other arrestees are Md Faridul Islam, 35, of Shimla village, Nazrul Islam, 26, and Shafikul Mondol, 35, of Ramakantapur village in Ullapara upazila of Sirajganj.

Police also seized six cocktails, a pistol, and a few sharp weapons from their possession.

The arrestees allegedly lured people with offer of foreign job and then abducted them for ransom, the OC said.

Our Moulvibazar Correspondent reports: Locals rescued an abducted boy from Amborkhana in Sylhet city on Friday evening while police arrested the alleged leader of the three abductors at Kazir point of Sunamganj town on Saturday night.

After rescuing Ebadur Rahman, 14, son of Md Alauddin Chowdhury of Kazir point residential area in Sunamganj town and a student of Class VII, locals informed police.

Criminals picked up Ebadur Rahman from near his house on June 29.

Later, the gang called the victim's father and demanded Tk 5 lakh as ransom, said Abdul Hye, OC of Sunamganj Sadar Police Station.

Through mobile tracking, police arrested the alleged abductor, Abdullah Al Mamun, 28, of Husenpur village in Moidhanagar upazila of Sunamganj district, at Kazir point in Sunamganj town around 10:00pm on Saturday, said Gazi Shakhawat, OC of Sunamganj Police Station.

Two of his accomplices went into hiding, the OC said.
