1.7 % children raped in Bangladesh every day: Study

Around 1.7 percent of children were raped on an average every day in Bangladesh last year, according to a study of Brac.

Besides, around 20.5 percent incident of violence against women took place at the same time, according to the study of the non-government organisation.

The findings were disclosed at a roundtable on ‘Our Role in Preventing Violence against Women’ organised by Community Empowerment Programme, BRAC at the Brac centre in Dhaka today.

The data were collected from 376 upazilas in 55 districts last year.

A total of 7889 women became victim of violation last year while the actual number of such incident remains unknown and unreported violence against women is higher than the facts, the report said.

Around 351 incidents of violation, the highest number, were recorded in Jessore, according to the report.
