15 injured in AL infighting

At least 15 people were injured in a clash between two factions of Awami League at Shitarampur village in Sadar upazila yesterday.

They also vandalised around 20 houses in the area, said police.

There was a longstanding conflict between Abdullah Al-Masum, chairman of Harishankarpur Union Parishad, and union AL president Khandakar Farukuzzaman Farid, former chairman of the union parishad. Both are AL backed UP chairmen.

Yesterday morning, the men of the two rivals, equipped with lethal weapons, attacked each other following an altercation over the previous UP elections at a tea stall in the village.
