140 gold bars seized, 1 held in Satkhira

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) today detained a man and seized 140 gold bars from his possession when he was smuggling those to India in Kolaroa upazila of Satkhira.

The detainee was identified as Alimuzzaman, 28, son of Shafiqul Islam, a resident of the upazila, our local correspondent reports.

BGB men intercepted Alimuzzaman near Toluigasa camp when he was heading towards the border on a motorbike, said Subedar Abul Kashem, commander of the camp under BGB 38 battalion.

The BGB men found the gold bars weighing over 16kg from under the seat and inside the tool box of the motorbike, the BGB official said.

Market value of the gold is worth around Tk 6.34 crore, he added.
