14 JMB men charged with Rangpur Khadem killing

Police have pressed charges against 14 members of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) for their alleged involvement with the killing of a khadem of a Rangpur Mazar last year.

Mamunur Rashid, inspector (investigation) of Kaunia Police Station and also investigation officer in the case, submitted the charge-sheet on July 3, said Officer-in-charge Abdul Kader Zilani.    

Public prosecutor of Rangpur Abdul Maleque briefed journalists about the submission of the charge-sheet today, our Dinajpur correspondent reports.

Unidentified criminals hacked Rahamat Ali, 55, to death in Choita intersection area in Kaunia upazila on November 10, 2015.

The accused are: Masud Rana 28, regional military commander of JMB, Isha Ali, 34, Liton Mia, 32, Abu Syeed, 28, Saddam Hossain, 32, Ahsan Ullah Ansari, 31 and Nazrul Islam Hasan, 32 and Sakhawat Hossain Shafique, 30, Sarwar Shahdat, 23, Toufiqul Islam, 28, Chandu Mia, 33, Babul Akter, 23 and Jahangir Alam 33. Of them, seven are in Rangpur jail.

According to police, Masud and Isha Ali gave confessional statements before a court.

Eight of the charge-sheeted accused were also made accused in the case filed for killing Japanese national Kunio Hoshi in the upazila in October last year,  PP Abdul Maleque confirmed.
