A team of coast guard today recovered at least 120kgs of venison in a drive from Patharghata upazila in Barguna district.

During regular patrolling, the coast guard team made the recovery -- including three hides and four heads of deer -- in a trawler at Nishanbaria area on Binskhali river around 3:30am, our Patuakhali correspondent reports quoting Md Hasanur Rahman, station commander of Bangladesh Coast Guard in the upazila.

The coast guard members chased the trawler which was carrying four men. At one stage, the men managed to flee the scene leaving the trawler on the bank of the river.

The seized items were handed over to the forest department, the station commander said.

Later, the venison was destroyed, said Md Solaiman Howlader, Patharghata range officer of the forest department.

A case was filed with Patharghata Police Station in this regard, he added.
