1,200kg bomb-making materials seized, 4 held

Detectives today claimed to have seized huge stash of explosives materials from Dhaka and Chittagong and arrested four persons in this connection.

The detainees were introduced as Awal, Alam, Sharif and Saidul during a press briefing at Dhaka Metropolitan Police headquarters. Monirul Islam, joint commissioner of the DMP conducted the briefing.

On secret information that someone will sell explosives materials at Lalbagh area, the detectives conducted the raid and first arrested Awal with two kg of explosive materials.

Later around 4:00am, upon information grilled from Awal, the law enforcers arrested Alam and Sharif from Chawkbazar and Lalbagh area.

Based on their information, Sadarghat Police Station in Chittagong held the “supplier” Saidul from his six-storied residence with around 1,200kg of explosives, he said.

“Saidul stored the materials in his two bedrooms on his fourth floor,” Monirul said. The materials are Sulfur, hexacloride and Lithium which are strong chemical elements.

“Many strong bombs could have been made with these elements,” he said.

When asked about their link with any militancy, Monirul said that they will investigate on their involvement.
