11 Jamaat men among 87 arrested in 3 districts

At least 87 people, including 11 Jamaat-Shibir men, were held during special drives by law enforcers in Jessore, Jhenidah and Satkhira districts on Monday and the day before.

Police in separate drives arrested 49 people, including former lawmaker of Jamaat-e-Islami and two others of the party, at different spots in Jessore on Monday night, reports our correspondent.

The arrestees include former local lawmaker Muhaddis Abu Sayeed, former ameer of the district unit of Jamaat, said Assistant Superintendent of Police Safin Mahmud. 

Habib Kaisar, son of the lawmaker, said the law enforcers picked up his father from the district town.

In Jhenidah, police arrested four activists of Jamaat and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir in Sadar upazila of the district on Monday and the day before, reports our correspondent.

The arrestees are Fazlur Rahman, 57, son of Moslem Uddin of Rautul village, Imran Hossain, 20, son of Fazlur Rahman, Rezaul Islam, 38, son of Ishaque Ali of Kharakhali village, and Babul Hossain, 33, son of Saidur Rahman of Kanuhorpur village in the upazila.

They were arrested on charge of planning subversive activities in the town, said ASP Ajbahar Ali Sheikh.

Away in Satkhira, the law enforcers in separate drives arrested 34 people, including four Jamaat men, in seven upazilas of the district Monday and the day before, reports our correspondent.

The four Jamaat activists were arrested on sabotage charges, said police.
