1000 volunteers to help police for traffic management: Obaidul

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said around 1,000 volunteers will be deployed at 14 spots on different highways ahead of the Eid-ul Fitr to ensure smooth vehicular movement.

They will work for five days in three shifts daily to assist law enforcers with the aim to ease traffic congestion during the holidays, he said.

The spots include—Kazla of Demra, Bhulta of Narayanganj, Savar and Ashulia.

He was talking to reporters at the capital’s Manik Miah Avenue during a mobile court drive of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) against unfit and unregistered motorbikes.

Mobile toilets to facilitate home-bound people

The government will also set up mobile public toilets besides highways to facilitate the passengers, Obaidul Quader said.

The Eid-ul-Fitr is expected to be celebrated on July 6 or 7.
