1 more held in Gazipur father-daughter suicide

A second accused has been arrested in the case of father-daughter suicide, the incident that created ripples as the duo believed to have jumped before a running train being devoid of justice for rape.

Md Borhan, 30, son of Nurul Islam, was held from Jhanjhail area of Netrokona around 4:00am, Golam Sabur, additional superintendent of Gazipur police, told our local correspondent.

Five other accused in the case are yet to be brought to book. “Two special teams of police are trying to arrest the rest of the accused,” the ASP added.

On April 29, Hazrat Ali, along with his daughter Ayesha, 8, jumped before a running train in Gazipur apparently out of frustration at not getting justice over sexual abuse of the minor girl.

The story moved hearts across the nation and triggered protests including in the social media.

Halima Begum, wife of Hazrat, filed the case accusing seven people of provoking the victims to commit suicide.

Previously, the prime accused Abul Hossain, a union parishad member, was arrested and remanded over the incident.
