A Union Parishad member died and at least 25 were injured when a clash broke out between groups of villagers over an incident of eve teasing in Kanaighat upazila of Sylhet today.

The deceased Dudu Mia, 40, was a member of local Union Parishad, our Moulvibazar correspondent reports quoting locals and a police official.

The trouble began at Kuar Gori village after Friday prayers where villagers had an altercation over teasing a girl, said Humayan Kabir, officer-in-charge of Kanaighat Police Station.

Yesterday, a mobile court led by Kanaighat UNO Tarek Mohammad Zakaria awarded three-month imprisonment to one Sabab Uddin for teasing a girl of a local school.

Following the verdict, Rakib Hasan, elder brother of Sabab, blamed Dudu Mia, the local Union Parishad member, for his brother’s punishment and had an altercation with him.
