1 dies as air conditioner catches fire in Aftabnagar

A man died and his father was injured after an air conditioner caught fire at their house in Dhaka’s Aftabnagar area in the early hours of today.

Deceased Swapnil Ahmed, 25, was sleeping in his room when the incident occurred around 5:00am, Duty Officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence Russel Sikder told The Daily Star.

Swapnil’s father Moazzem Hossain Nannu, who is a journalist, also fell sick after inhaling smoke caused by the fire, the official said.

Six fire fighting units from Tejgaon, Khilgaon and Baridhara rushed to the spot and brought the fire, which broke out on the top-floor apartment of the ten-storey building, under control.

Swapnil’s body has been sent to the Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy.
