Government extends closure till April 11

The government today decided to extend the ongoing closure of public and private offices and all other non-essential services till April 11, in a bid to curb coronavirus transmission.

A circular was issued in this regard by the Public Administration Ministry today, Shaikh Yusuf Harun, secretary of the ministry told The Daily Star.

Earlier the government had declared all offices and schools shut from March 26 to April 4 in a bid to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

The closure has now been extended by a week.

Utility services including water, electricity, gas, telephone, internet will be open during this time, the notice added.

Hospitals, pharmacies, kitchen markets and vehicles carrying essential items will be out of the purview of this closure.

Authorities are also mulling over plans to slowly start allowing some more rickshaws, vans and buses back on the roads. They are also planning to start rail services slowly. Authorities are doing this in consideration of those who rely on these services for income.
