Covid-19: 37 die, 2,772 infected, 1,801 recover in 24 hours

Thirty-seven people have died from coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general (administration) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), said during a briefing today.

The death toll now stands at 2,965 and the death rate at 1.31 percent.

Two thousand seven hundred and seventy-two people have tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.

With the fresh cases, the total number of positive cases so far in the country stands at 2,26,225 and the current infection rate is 21.56 percent.

The total infection rate stands at 20.12 percent, according to DGHS.

Bangladesh is currently 16th in the list of worst affected countries in the world in terms of the number of cases.

The position is one step ahead of Turkey and one step behind Italy, according to worldometer.info.

A total of 12,859 samples were tested across the country in the last 24 hours, Dr Nasima said.

Meanwhile, 1,801 Covid-19 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours.

The total number of recoveries stands at 1,25,683 and the recovery rate at 55.56 percent.

Five hundred and fifty people were put under isolation in the last 24 hours, Dr Nasima added during the briefing.

Among the deceased, 26 were male and 11 were female while one was between 21-30 years old, one within 31-40, seven within 41-50, seven between 51-60, 12 between 61-70, eight within 71-80 and one was between 81-90 years old, Dr Nasima also said.

Of them, 24 were from Dhaka, five from Chattagram, two from Khulna, three from Rangpur, one from Mymensingh and two were from Barishal division.
