Coronavirus: movement of public transport limited in Madaripur's Shibchar

Movement of public transport has been limited in Madaripur's Shibchar upazila in a bid to contain the spread of coronavirus.

Wahidul Islam, deputy commissioner of Madaripur district confirmed the matter to The Daily Star.

Authorities have not taken any decision on closure of stores and other business establishments yet.

"There is no decision of lock-down in the upazila. We will bring the area under lock-down only when the government will take such decision," said Shibchar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Asaduzzaman.

The official said a good number of expatriates live in the upazila. They limited the movement of public transport and banned vehicular movement through the Shibchar bypass to Madaripur. Public transports have been asked to use the highway instead of using the bypass.

Asked about the decision of the closure of shops in the upazila, the UNO said they requested owners of shops for cosmetics, furniture, and electronics -- which do not put an emergency impact on daily life -- to limit their working hours and prevent mass gathering.
