Coronavirus: 170 brick field workers sent to institutional quarantine in Satkhira

The local administration in Satkhira today sent 170 brick field workers, who had arrived from Narsingdi, on institutional quarantine as part of measures to contain the spread of coronavirus.

Police picked up the workers as they reached Khulna road intersection near Satkhira town on six trucks at different times from 10:00am today, our local correspondent reports quoting Satkhira Deputy Commissioner Mustafa Kamal.

All the workers, residents of different villages under the upazila, were sent to an institutional quarantine centre in Shyamnagar upazila for 14 days, Mustafa Kamal said.

While talking to our correspondent, Abuzar Gifari, the upazila nirbahi officer, said he first kept all the people at Nakipur Haricharan High School to check for symptoms.

And then, institutional and home quarantine for them was arranged in consultation with the local chairman, the UNO said.

According to the district administration, around 12,000 people entered Satkhira district from different places acrosAnchors the country including Dhaka, Gazipur, Narayanganj, Madaripur, Shariatpur and Narsingdi in the last week and most of them are brick field labours, DC Mustafa said.
