Covid-19: Another policeman dies; death toll for cops now 31

A constable of Narayanganj's port police outpost died today after contracting Covid-19, bringing the death toll of police deaths from coronavirus to 31.

The victim Md Rafiqul Islam, 56, had been working to prevent the spread of Covid-19, according to a Police Headquarters (PHQ) statement.

He breathed his last around 7:00pm while undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit of Impulse Hospital in the capital.

Rafiqul joined the police force in 1986 and worked for different units during his 34-year career. Hailing from Ahmedpur village of Char Fashion Police Station in Bhola district, Rafiqul leaves behind his wife, two sons and a daughter, as well as many relatives and admirers.

His body has been sent to his village under the management of Bangladesh Police and the burial will be completed at the family graveyard after janaza and other religious ceremonies there.

The total number of police personnel infected with Covid-19 across the country rose to 9,172 today, according to a PHQ tally.
