World Child Cancer stands beside doctors, nurses

World Child Cancer (WCC), a UK-based charity organisation, has extended its helping hand to the doctors and nurses involved in cancer treatment in the time of coronavirus pandemic in Bangladesh.

The WCC has purchased 200 sets of high quality personal protective equipment (PPE) and handed them over to the heads of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology departments of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital (SMCH), Dhaka Children's Hospital and National Institute of Cancer Research Hospital this morning.

Expressing gratitude to the WCC for providing the protective equipment for their doctors and nurses, Professor Dr Md Selimuzzaman, head of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology department of Dhaka Children's Hospital, said the materials will help protect physicians who provide services to cancer affected children.

Jewel Ahmed, programme coordinator of World Child Cancer Bangladesh, said doctors and nurses engaged in treating cancer-affected children, are not out of risk as they are treating different patients in hospitals and might be possible carriers of the virus.

"We are providing PPE to them considering the safety of the healthcare professionals and cancer affected children," he said.

World Child Cancer has been operating its activities in Bangladesh since 2012, aiming to increase the standard of cancer treatment systems and raise awareness on pediatric cancer prevention.
