Jashore sees highest daily coronavirus cases; 15 India returnees among 249 test positive

Jashore has recorded the highest number of coronavirus cases in a day as 249 people, including 15 India returnees, tested positive in the district in 24 hours till this morning.

Three people died at the coronavirus unit of Jashore General Hospital in 24 hours till last night. One of them was diagnosed with Covid-19 while two had symptoms, said Jashore Additional District Magistrate Kazi Md Sayemuzzaman. 

With them, in total 15 died of Covid-19 at the hospital in a week, reports our Benapole correspondent.

Jashore Additional District Magistrate Sayemuzzaman said samples of 528 people were tested in 24 hours and 249 of them tested positive. The rate of infection is 47 percent, he said.

Local administration will soon impose tougher actions as people are not following the government-imposed restrictions, Sayemuzzaman said.

Restrictions on public and transport movement in Jashore and Nowapara municipalities has been extended for a week while fresh restrictions have been declared at Benapole and Jhikorgachha municipalities.
