Covid-19 infection rate in Rajshahi doubles in a day

The detection rate of Covid-19 infection has almost doubled in Rajshahi district today, according to reports of two RT PCR laboratories in the city.

The detection rate of Covid-19 positive patients of the district which was 21.7 per hundred samples tested the day before has risen to 42 percent in the reports that have been made available to local journalists after 8:00pm.

Signatories of the reports issued by Rajshahi Medical College (RMC) and Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) confirmed the matter as well.

However, Rajshahi's civil surgeon differed and claimed the district's rate is less than 18 percent as 39 persons were detected to be Covid-19 positive of 220 samples tested.

The Civil Surgeon Md Quiume Talukder said the laboratories often make mistakes in the patients' districts.

"We will enquire about the reports tomorrow," he said.

According to the reports, 195 samples were tested from people living in Rajshahi at two RT PCR laboratories (126 and 69 samples at RMC and RMCH respectively) on Wednesday.

Of them, 82 persons were detected positive (55 at RMC and 27 at RMCH).

On Tuesday, 51 people were found Covid-19 positive against 235 samples tested.

In Chapainawabganj, the infection detection rate dropped to 58 percent from 62 percent the day before. However, no new samples were tested from the district.

In Naogaon, out of 92 samples 19 were found Covid-19 positive, the reports say.
