Steps have been taken to make Covid-19 vaccines at pharmaceutical factories around Gopalganj district, said Health Minister Zahid Maleque today.

"We are keen to make vaccines in the country. We already held an emergency meeting with local and foreign experts, as per the prime minister's instruction. I talked to people and asked them to create a project profile on this," said the minister at a press briefing at his house in Manikganj today, reports our correspondent.

"We have taken steps to make Covid-19 vaccines in the pharmaceutical factories around Gopalganj district. It took a while but the work has started already, he said.

Zahid Maleque said, "Moderna vaccines will come very soon, possibly within eight to 10 days."

"Moderna is a very effective vaccine and has to be stored at -20 degree Celsius and we already made that arrangement," he added.

"Sinopharm vaccine from China will arrive very soon; it will come within a short time but I can't say the exact date. I can't say exactly how many doses there will be either…," the minister added.

"An agreement with Russia is moving forward. We are now in the final stages of signing the vaccine deal," he said.
