Covid-19 outbreak: Parents die, 13 days after son’s death

An elderly couple died after showing symptoms associated with coronavirus 13 days after the death of their son to Covid-19 infection in Kachua upazila of Chandpur.

The victims are an 80-year-old man, his wife, 65, and their son, 45.

All were residents of Palgiri village in the upazila, our local correspondent reports quoting Salah Uddin Mahmud, the health and family planning officer of the upazila.

Quoting locals, the health and family planning officer said the son returned from Dhaka on May 15 and started living with his parents. Locals claimed he had been showing symptoms since his return.

"He died at the house on May 17. We tested his sample and it was positive," the health official said.

Within 12 days, his father died of coronavirus-like symptoms at the house on May 28 and his mother met the same fate. She was being taken to a hospital in Dhaka today after showing similar symptoms. She died on the way around 11:30am, Mahmud said.

"We collected samples from the two and have sent those to be tested. We have not received the results yet," he added.
