Covid-19 deaths in Bangladesh nearing 5,000

40 die, 1,705 infected, 2,152 recover in 24 hours

Forty people have died and 1,705 new Covid-19 infections were recorded in the country in the last 24 hours, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The total number of deaths has now reached 4,979 and the death rate stands at 1.42 percent. The total number of people infected has now risen to 3,50,621, according to the briefing.

The current positivity rate is 13.06 percent and the total positivity rate stands at 19.11 percent.

Bangladesh is currently 15th in the list of worst-affected countries in the world in terms of number of cases.

The position is one step ahead of Saudi Arabia and one step behind United Kingdom, according to worldometers.info.

A total of 13,053 samples were tested across the country in the last 24 hours. At least 2,152 Covid-19 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours.

The total number of recoveries stands at 2,58,717 and the recovery rate at 73.79 percent.

Among the deceased 27 were male and 13 were female while one was between 0-10 years old, two within 21-30, three were within 31-40, four between 41-50, 10 between 51-60 and 20 were above 60 years old.
