Covid-19: 2nd-highest daily death toll of 108, positivity rate 21.22%

5,869 new cases in last 24 hours

One hundred and eight people have died from Covid-19 in 24 hours till 8am today, said a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The daily death toll is the second-highest recorded in Bangladesh since the pandemic hit the country in March 2020. The highest number of daily deaths is 112 on April 19.

Today's tally brings the total number of deaths in the country to 13,976 and the death rate stands at 1.59 percent.

At least 5,869 new infections were recorded during the period, taking the total number of people infected to 8,78,804, added the release.

The current positivity rate is 21.22 percent while the total positivity rate stands at 13.60 percent. The Covid-19 positivity rate the previous day was 19.93 percent.

A total of 27,653 samples were tested across the country in 24 hours.

At least 2,776 Covid-19 patients have recovered during the period.

The total number of recoveries now stands at 7,97,559 and the recovery rate at 90.76 percent.

Among the 108 deceased, 75 were men and 33 were women. Of them, one was between 11-20 years old, two were within 21-30, seven between 31-40, 15 between 41-50, 25 between 51-60 and 58 were above 60 years old, added the release.
