78, number of Covid-19 deaths in a day highest till now; 5,819 infected

Seventy-eight people have died from Covid-19 during 24 hours (till 8am today), according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

This is the highest number of deaths due to Covid-19 recorded in the span of a day so far in the country. The number of daily deaths were 77 yesterday.

With this the total number of deaths reached 9,739 and death rate stands at 1.42 percent.

At least 5,819 new infections were recorded in the meantime taking the total number of people infected to 6,84,756, added the release.

The current positivity rate is 19.81 percent while the total positivity rate stands at 13.69 percent.

A total of 29,376 samples were tested across the country in 24 hours (till 8am today).

At least 4,212 Covid-19 patients have recovered during the period.

The total number of recoveries now stands at 5,76,590 and the recovery rate at 84.20 percent.

Among the 78 deceased, 53 were men and 25 women while one was under 10 years old, seven within 31-40, seven between 41-50, 16 between 51-60, and 48 were above 60 years old, added the release.
